What Junk Do You Have In Your Trunk?

What junk do you have in your trunk?  I’m not referring to any part of someones anatomy, but the junk that gets put in your trunk or the “Wayback” part of the car that never makes it out again.  I find that my wifes car is somewhat of a black hole, what goes in doesn’t come out.  My old Durango was the same, though by design.

Now I have a new car (Truck? These day’s it’s hard to tell) and I don’t have the convenient under floor storage that my 2001 Durango had.  I kept jumper cables, and adjustable wrench, multi-tip screw driver, slip-joint plyers, allen wrenches, air pump, safety glasses and a variety of cotton and non-slip gloves, a Tyvek blanket, chain link dog collar, ~50 feet of 1/8′ line, duct tape, a partial roll of paper towels, bungee cords, 2′ ball and hitch and lastly about 10 plastic shopping bags.  All this fit in the spot under the load floor, out of sight and out of mind, but there just in case.  I used the dog collar once.  That’s it.  I never needed the jumper cables, or the tools.

My new car, a Lincoln MKT (review to come later) doesn’t have the same hidden storage that the Durango had.  It does have power folding 3rd row of seats, which is handy when you have 2 kids.  As far as what I keep in my trunk, I have jumper cables sliding around the back with no place “proper” to keep them.  As for all of the “emergency tools”, they are in my garage, while I figure out where to keep them.  I am looking at a convenient tool bag/trunk bag from Groit’s Garage.  I think it will keep my necessities in order.

Not that I may ever need them. As one person put it, the only tool needed to get the car going when problems hit is the 800 number at the base of the driver side window.  ”Hello, my car won’t……”

A Wedding in Jacksonville

A traditional road trip a wedding is. I always welcome a trip to Jacksonville, Florida, and what a reason to visit. The marriage of family is important.

The wedding was at the Epping Forest Yacht Club, a short drive from downtown Jacksonville. The main building was built in 1926 as the summer home of industrialist Alfred DuPont and his wife, Jesse. Over the years, many illustrious guests have stayed here, including the Vanderbilt’s, Carnegie’s, Presidents Ford and Anwar Sadat. In 1984 the Gate Corporation purchased the property in order to preserve it for future generations. The property overlooks the St. Johns river, with NAS Jax across the river, some distance away.

My family and I spent the night at the Crown Plaza Riverfront. Though the location was great and the view of the city was awesome, on the whole, the service was sub-par for a Crown Plaza. Check in took 20 minutes. Though we had valet parking, we had no help with our luggage either to our room or on check out.

For brunch the next morning, we ate at the Metro Diner. Definitely worth the visit and is highly recommended. I had the Eggs Benedict with hashbrowns made with onion and mushrooms. Mmmmmmm. Both my boy’s had 12″ pancakes, which were really much bigger than that!

Overall, the trip was a success. We had a great time.

Out and About

Here we are, sitting on the deck of the River Grille on the Tomoka Rivera and just off US1, enjoying appetizers. My wife and I have been spending our Sundays looking for great water front dining that our two boys enjoy.

Two weeks ago, through an invitation from a friend, really enjoyed a great private party at the old Rose Bay Restaurant (now Hidden Treasure Grill). Private because the business was not yet open. It Rocked!!  I hope it opens soon as the food and service was excellent!  Good luck making it through to opneing!  It will make an excellent now place in Port Orange.

We can do quick trips just around town. That is really a Highway Roadtrip!!
